Meditation In Chelsea, Michigan

Insight Meditation and Mindfulness Practices

Do you have an incessant voice in your head - one that comments about everything all the time, one that criticizes everything you do, one that takes both sides of an argument and plays it out ad infinitum, one that refuses to take responsibility for bad advice and yet takes all responsibility when things work out well? Is it ever happy?

Insight Meditation is a simple and direct practice of moment-to-moment awareness; a mindfulness that helps to create a little quiet in our mind and body experiences. Through this practice we nurture the ability within ourselves to live more skillfully, enhancing our health and our relationships. By simply paying attention we can alleviate the stress in our lives, using difficult experiences for growth rather than suffering. No previous meditation experience is required yet the lessons learned will be enriching for active meditators. The course is suitable for persons of all religious, spiritual or philosophical persuasions. For questions on class content, contact Carol at 734 475-0942.

Meditation Workshop: (offered on request)

Why come to the meditation workshop?

  1. The results are in! Medical studies have validated that meditation has physiological benefits. It is one of the methods that decreases cortisol and increases serotonin.
  2. Do you have an incessant voice in your head – one that chatters all of the time, criticizes everything you do or others do, questions every decision? Can it ever be satisfied or happy for long? Listening and believing that voice creates a sense of dissatisfaction and stress in life. Meditation is one tool to help.
  3. Every religion has love as its basis. Sometimes it can be hard to express love when every family member has a different opinion, your co-workers can’t help as much as you expect, your family has expectations of your time, someone hurts you and on and on. Meditation, when practiced regularly, can help open one’s heart.

Exploring the Eightfold Path

via Internet and Conference call

The Buddha said the way to end suffering was to follow the eight fold path. How does greed, hatred and delusion become eradicated through these eight steps? What does right livelihood, right speech and right action mean in our current world condition? What does right view incompass? This class will explore these and other issues while reinforcing the use of practice both on and off the cushion. It will be based on Bhante Gunaratana's book, "Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness".

There will be Google Group discussions, conference calls and individual work.  Email Carol for more information.
